This week was spent mostly on scat analysis in the lab; but on a more exciting note, we were able to go out to Halibut Cove to survey for marine mammals. Our specific target was harbor porpoises. We saw a few and quickly learned that Serena was right when she said they were difficult to photograph. The images aren't useful for ID purposes, but it was a great lesson in photographing shy cetaceans. While they were the highlight of this trip, it would be remiss to not mention the boisterous nature of the birds at Gull Island. It was difficult to even talk to the person next to you at times, but the birds didn't seem to mind. In fact, I argue that they were having more fun that way.
